Age:
Duration of time which could be calculated or estimated
between date of birth and the reference period. Age must be in complete years
regardless of fractions of the year.
Area of Housing
Unit:
The area on which the housing unit is built measured by
square meters.
Building:
It is a permanent or temproral structure established on land
or water which consists of one floor or more used either for residence,
practicing work, worship, recreation or culture. It may have one entrance or
more which leads from public or private road to all parts of the building or to
some parts of it. Subsidiaries of the building such as the garage, store,
...etc. are considered as parts of the main building. Abandoned structures, bus
stops, bridges, electricity huts were not classified as buildings.
Collective household :
Collective Household has no head, and
consists of (6) persons or more not necessarily related to each other, such as
collective labour housing units, nurses and teachers hostel, hotel lodgers,
prisons old age houses, orphanages, and mental asylums. It is noted that there
are private households within some collective housing units such as the hotel
managers and their families who are living in a private suite or a hospital
director with his family or prison director and his family.
Current / Previous
Occupation:
The main type of work, trade or profession performed by the employed or the
unemployed having ever worked.
Current /
Previous Type of Economic:
Activity: The main activity of the establishment in which the person worked
or was working during the reference period. Main activity of employed persons,
who were not working in establishments, was determined according to their
occupations.
Educational Level:
Highest educational qualification obtained successfully by a
person aged (15) years and more at time of enumeration. A person may be.

Employed:
A person of 15years of age or more who worked or is working in the public or
private sector for at least one hour during the reference period (i.e. the week
before interview). Self employed workers who owned their enterprises, employers
who partially owned their enterprises, family workers who were working in
enterprises owned by the family, and workers in other unidentified works were
considered as employed persons. This category also includes all persons holding
a work contract even if they were absent from work during the reference period
due to various reasons.
Enrollment in
educational Institutions:
A person is considered to be currently enrolled if he or she is a child of
the age of 4 years or more, registered in a private or governmental educational
institution in Jordan or abroad, and going regularly to that educational
institution with the purpose of studying. Persons who are studying by
correspondence, persons enrolled in adult schools, illiteracy combating
programmes were not considered as currently enrolled even if they were enrolled
in classes.
Head of Household:
He is a usual household member living in Jordan, who is
recognized as such by other members of the household. He is usually responsible
for living arrangements and decision - taking of the household. He may be male
or female aged 15 years and above. The collective Household has no head.
Household :
One person or more living in a separated housing unit or part
of it. For census purposes, there are two kinds of households, namely, the
private household and collective household. Definition of each is as follows:
Housing Unit:
It is a building or part of it, virtuous for residence of one
or more households regardless of its occupancy status at time of census. Housing
unit may consist of one room or more with subsidiaries. A housing unit has
independent entrance leads directly (or through a road, passage or stairs) to a
public road without passing through other housing units.

Marital Status:
The civil status of a person aged (15) years and more at time
of enumeration. Marital status was classified as follows.
Never Married (Single):
A person aged (15) years and more who never married according
to social customs at time of enumeration.
Married :
A person aged (15) years and more engaged in actual marriage
according to the customs, regardless of the presence of spouse at time of
enumeration. Persons married by bond without actual marriage are not considered
as married persons.
Divorced :
A person aged (15) years and more whose actual marriage was
legally dissolved by divorce and not remarried at time of enumeration.
Widowed:
A person aged (15) years and more whose last marriage was
dissolved because of the death of spouse and not remarried at time of
enumeration.
Separated:
A person aged (15) years and more who has been ever married
actually but living away from the spouse (due to dispute) without occurrence of
divorce or death.
Nationality:
The legal citizenship or affiliation of the person, which is
usually determined by the passport he holds or he has the right to have it.
Place of
current usual residence:
The place where the person lived in continuously for (6)
months of more. Place of enumeration was considered as a place of current usual
residence for new live births aged less than (6) months. Place of current usual
residence of Jordanians abroad was determined as the place where the person
lived in continuously for (6) months or more before or after he left Jordan (As
the case may be).
1- Population inside Jordan regardless of their nationality
2- Jordanians abroad for less than one year (except for the cases mentioned earlier in the definition of household).
Previous place of usual residence:
The last place where the person lived in for (6) months or
more before he moved to the current place of residence .
Private household:
It is a household with a head; the members of household
participate in expenditures from the income of head of household or some of
household members. Some of household members may not be related to each other,
although it is commonly known that there is a relationship between them. It is
commonly known also that the members share meals or some of these meals. The
household comprises all those who were absent temporarily from the household
outside Jordan for a period less than one year who will after that return to
join the household (With the exception of students, morbids, tourists, members
of the Armed forces serving with UN peace - keeping forces and diplomats are
considered as usual members regardless of their stay abroad). It is not
necessary that a person who shares the expenditure to be a member of the
household. The father who resides continuously abroad and provides expenditure
to his wife and children in Jordan is not considered as one of the household
members, unles he was accidentally available during the enumeration or his
absence abroad is less than one year.

Room :
A housing unit or part of it, with an area not less than (4)
squared meters. Room may
be used for sleeping, sitting, eating, studying or recreation. Separated
kitchen, bathroom balcony and rooms designated for work are not considered as
rooms.
Amarah:
A building of one floor or more, with inside or outside stairs that serve all
the floors Amarah may be used for residential purposes only, or multiple
purposes such as: residence and work, residence and worship, etc.
Dar:
A conventional (or traditional) building of one room or more. Dar may be
surrounded by a fence and could be of two floors served by uncovered stairs.
Villa:
A structure usually built of cut stone, with one floor or more connected by
internal stairs. Villa usually contains more than one wing, one of which is
designated for sleeping, and the other for reception, cooking, ... etc. Villas
usually have gardens, stone fences and the roof is usually covered by bricks.
Barracks:
A structure of one room or more, built of zink, Aspestos, ... etc.
Hair tent / Tent:
A Movable structure made of hair or wool or cloth.
Establishment:
A structure used for work only (Factory, school, governmental establishment,
... etc.) Even if it contained a special part for the use of guard.

A structure which needs completion and not virtuous for residence or other
types of occupancy at time of census
Other buildings:

Unemployed:
A person of 15 years of age or more, able to work, seeking work during the
reference period, and available for work, whether he or she has ever or never
worked was considered as unemployed person.
