The Jordanian And Yemeni Statistics Sign Cooperation Agreement

In the presence of the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Suhair Al-Ali and the Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen in Amman, Hussein Bin Taher Bin Yahia, a joint cooperation agreement was signed between the Jordanian and the Yemeni Statistical Departments. Director General of DOS, Dr. Gazi Shbaikat and Chairman of the Yemeni Central Statistical Organization, Dr. Amin Muhyiddin signed the agreement.

Al-Ali said that the agreement will provide a framework for cooperation through which the two countries can work together to exchange expertise, build institutional capacities and address statistical gaps with a view to strengthening their national statistical systems. The aim is to make statistics an effective tool for economic and social development in both countries, Al-Ali said.

On his part, Bin Yahia stressed the need for countries in the Arab region to engage with each other especially that the levels of development vary in different areas and different countries, such that exchange of expertise would bring great mutual benefits. Effective cooperation in the statistical area, he added, would be a step in the right direction.

The agreement is sought to enhance adoption of international methodologies in statistics, promote coordination of standards, and build capacity of the two institutions. With both countries already have in place national strategies for statistical development, the agreement would help in the implementation phase of these strategies.

The agreement contained many cooperation aspects such as exchange of statistical publications, information and data, on the job training, study tours and other activities deemed to be necessary by one of the parties.

Additional aspects include joint cooperation in the fields of training, administrative development, human resources, carrying out of studies and analytical researches and improvement of the statistical methodologies according to international practices.
