General Industrial Price Index of Industrial Producers decreases by 16.5% for 2009

          The monthly report issued by the Department of Statistics indicates a decrease in the General Industrial Price Index of the Industrial Producers for 2009 by (16.5 %) as compared with the same period of 2008. This mainly was a result of a decrease in the manufacturing industries prices by (23.3 %) with a relative importance of 82.5%, while the prices of the Quarrying Industries went up by 18.7% with a relative importance of 11.0% and Electricity by 4.5 % with a relative importance of 6.5%.

     The report also indicates an increase in the General Industrial Prices Index for December 2009 by 1.0 % as compared with November 2009. This has resulted from an increase in the manufacturing industries by 1.2 % and quarrying industries by 0.5%, while the electricity prices have decreased by 1.0%.

          The data also indicate a decrease in the General Industrial Prices Index for December 2009 by 19.3% as compared with the same month of 2008. This has resulted mainly from a decrease in the manufacturing industries prices by (18.6%), quarrying industries prices by (25.6 %) and electricity by (1.3%).

         It is worthy to mention that the prices of sub-group commodities (Chemical Minerals, Mining and Fertilizers) have approximately contributed by 15.4 % of the total price decrease for 2009 as compared with 2008.
