3.1% the average increase in quantities of industrial Production during 2007 

The statistical data issued by the Department of Statistics indicate a rise in the General Industrial Production Index by 3.1% during 2007 as compared with 2006. This rise has resulted from the increase in quantities of the manufacturing sector by 2.2% with a relative importance of 82.5% and electricity by 18.0 % with a relative importance of 6.5 %. Meanwhile, the quantities produced by the quarrying sector have decreased by 1.4% with a relative importance of 11.0%. The main manufacturing industries which contributed to the increase in the General Industrial Production Index were fabricated metal products, non-mineral products, machinery and rubber products, while the food production industries, cloths and tanning and refining oil products has retreated. 

The results also indicate an increase in the General Industrial Production Index in December 2007 by 0.3 % compared with the previous month. It was a result of the increase in the quantities produced by the quarrying sector by 23.0 % and electricity by 12.3 %, while production of the manufacturing industries has decreased by 2.4%.

      The General Industrial Production Index for December 2007 has decreased by 3.2 % as compared to December 2006. This was a result of the decrease in the production quantities of the manufacturing sector by 5.4% while the production quantities of the quarrying sector have increased by 4.8 % and electricity by16.2%.
