Memorandum of
Understanding between the Ministry of Information and Technology and the
Department of Statistics to measure the by households and institutions
Amman –AlRai- The Ministry of Information and Technology and the Department of Statistics signed yesterday at the ministry premises a Memorandum of Understanding to conduct periodical field surveys in all regions of the Kingdom in order to establish indicators for measuring technology use by households and institutions.
The agreement was signed by Engineer Afram Jameel, Under secretary of the Ministry of Information and Technology on behalf of the Ministry and Dr.Gazi Shbeikat, Director General of Statistics.
The Memorandum of Understanding states that the Department of Statistics shall carry out three annual surveys on the extent of technology uses .The first survey pertains to the use of information technology by households, which begins for the first time during the final quarter of 2006, and shall be repeated annually.This survey covers the selected households through sampling, while the second survey shall cover information technology uses by institutions and enterprises as of 2007.The third survey will cover all the enterprises in the information technology sector.
Engineer Afram said that the surveys aim at identifying the degree of information technology popularity in the Kingdom(households and institutions) in addition to characteristics of users.He also asserted on the importance of these data in enhancing the capabilities of the Ministry for future planning of this sector.
On his turn, Dr.shbeikat confirmed the willingness of the Department of Statistics to strengthen the co-operation with all public and private institutions which will have a positive impact on the accuracy of decision making.
