The Department of Statistics launches the Report
of the Governorates’ Indicators
The Department of Statistics has lunched the Report of the Governorates’ Indicators, which is the first of its kind in the march of the Department of Statistics since its establishment in 1949. The report contained statistical indicators for a time series covering the period 2003-2006 reflecting the trends in the indicators values for twelve major topics mainly: demography, health, education, households and housing, economy, information and communications, environment, security and crime, syndicates and associations, social security, tourism, agriculture and transport. The report also included the Metadata of the indicators in Arabic and English languages, constituting of the definition, method of calculation, resources and periodicity.
The calculation of the statistical indicators included in the report was primarily based on data produced by the Department of Statistics through censuses and sample surveys in all fields as well as data from various administrative sources that produce different data for non-statistical purposes. The importance of this report is a complementary statistical document, which can be used by all data users to identify the trends and changes in the statistical indicators, as well as to identify the differences between governorates. This will help in studying these differences, identify the causes and to develop appropriate solutions to reduce the gaps which may exist between the governorates for different reasons.
The report contributes to enhancing the information and knowledge on the situation of the governorates in the Kingdom, which is essential for decision makers and planners in different areas in addition to researchers from various grounds. The report also contributes to assisting the development planning officials formulating policies, preparation of plans and directing the corrective programmes which aim at improving the living conditions of the population for attaining equal distribution of development gains whenever possible.
