1.8 % the average increase in quantities of industrial production during 2008

The statistical data issued by the Department of Statistics indicate a rise in the General Industrial Production Index by 1.8 % during 2008 as compared with the same period of 2007. This rise has resulted from an increase in quantities of the manufacturing sector by 1.1 % with a relative importance of 82.5 %, electricity production by 1.1 % with a relative importance of 6.5 % and the quarrying industries by 10.8 % with a relative importance of 11.0 %. 

         The results also indicate an increase in the General Industrial Production Index in December 2008 by 1.2 % compared with the previous month (November 2008). It was a result of an increase in the quantities produced by the manufacturing sector by 1.8 % and Electricity by 3.5 %, while the production quantities of the quarrying industries have decreased by 7.5 %.    

          Meanwhile, the General Industrial Production Index for December 2008 has increased by 1.7 % as compared with the same month of 2007. This was a result of an increase in the production quantities of the manufacturing sector by 4.3 % while the production quantities of Electricity and quarrying industries have decreased by 21.6 % and 1.4 % respectively.
