Agricultural price survey
The farm-gate price provided by the agricultural price survey is one of the most important measures that help in determining the agricultural revenue as well as the price of production inputs, marketing cost which includes packing, loading, transportation and market cost. These costs reduce the revenue in some cases as it reaches more than 25% of selling price at the central markets. It helps in understanding the causes of high costs and decision making to control the cost by formulating strategies based on scientific basis.
Objectives of the Surveys
The overall objective of the construction surveys is generally to:
1. Estimating the wholesale, central markets and farm-gate prices of different agricultural products by collecting data related to agricultural prices from holders
2. Estimating the market costs paid by the farmer for selling his production at central markets or at farm-gate, as well as estimating the proportional weight of market costs components.
3. Estimating the average price of production inputs during the year.
4. Estimating the shares of different marketing areas (whether wholesale markets, central markets or farm or adjacent to it) out of the total sold quantities.
Sample Coverage
The Survey covered a sample which included crops holdings, and irrigated and non-irrigated holdings in all governorates of the kingdom.
Survey Sample
The sampling method for the agricultural prices survey a stratified random sample was designed based on dividing The Ghor areas into four strata; each representing a district. Then a sample was selected representing 3% of total number of Ghor holdings. In the upland area a two stage sampling method was used, two clusters (each cluster consists of two irrigated villages) were selected from each Governorate, then 30 agricultural holdings were selected from each cluster as a second stage.
